    Canon Character Section:
History: Her article is sort of sparse, but her arc follows the story of The Cole Protocol

    Personality:
Rampancy is special. That's putting it mildly. And Juliana? Juliana teeters on the edge of rampancy, trying to keep herself in control but exhibiting so many signs that she's already gone past the limit.

An older AI past her operational lifespan, Juliana shows symptoms of a condition called rampancy, which makes AI volatile and self-important to an extreme degree. In some ways, they begin to think themselves to death, but in others, they develop grandiose ideas and the capacity to act on them impulsively, rather than being controlled by subroutines and check mechanisms.

When she introduces herself to others, she makes it very clear that she has a high opinion of herself, calling herself a goddess and acting every inch the benevolent, lofty being that any goddess might be. She takes it upon herself not only to hijack and hack whatever she feels like to whatever mild degrees that she can, but also to use that power to any means she desires, whether or not it contradicts her long-held loyalty to her people, the residents of the Rubble. At best, it's a god complex that comes from her knowing she has superior intellect and can process and think much more quickly and perhaps logically than her keepers.

She is, for the most part, fiercely loyal. Everything she does, she does for the general good of the residents, to protect them when they can't or won't protect themselves. In a way, she looks down on them, as though they are children who need her guidance. When she disagrees with them, she acts on her own. When they need a nudge, she gives them an all-out shove. Her protectiveness is what, in the end, saves one million residents and ends her own operational life. The willingness to sacrifice herself goes beyond what many more logical AIs might do.

There's little that is subtle about Juliana. From her obvious showing of emotions--laughs, crossing her arms, shimmering or changing her glow--to the way she speaks so directly, she's about as straightforward and transparent as it gets. Though she holds her secrets, she seems eager to share them when the time is right, to give the big reveals just when needed with dramatic flair. Information is dropped like bombs, gladly so, and she cares little for the reactions of those she gives it to. This may be a result of the situation she's in, the sense of urgency she feels, but often times she just seems to enjoy it. But she never explains her motives unless she absolutely must, and keeps many details about her reasons for acting under wraps until the very moment when she needs to put the information out plainly.

Some people, however, she favors or respects. The Spartans, for example, she calls her "knights", relying on them to (and manipulating them into) helping her cause. Knowing their reputation, she sees them as the best tools for the job, the blunt force she needs to get things taken care of quickly and easily. Jai, the team leader, appears to be her favorite, even earning the jibes of the other Spartans because of it. But she trusts him to do things for reasons that are never explained. She also seems to recognize the value of Ignatio Delgado as well, being as he's the sworn protector of the navigation data for the Rubble, making sure that he is kept as safe as possible in any given situation, even if he seems to mistrust her.

Like any AI, Juliana is careful to take in any information she can and consider it fully before making a decision. This is especially apparent when the situation about Metisette is explained to her in detail, and she even pauses for a few moments to figure out how to execute a loosely organized plan. Becoming human, she would assuredly seek out all the information that she could to understand her situation and to keep herself on top of things to the utmost.

As far as Teleios is concerned, Juliana will be both happy and sad to have left her previous environment. She'll want to find a way to be useful and to keep herself occupied during her incarceration of sorts. Her "crimes" would be viewed as necessary to her, so not only will she disagree, but... actually, she just won't care. This means she gets to play around and be alive longer, and that's fine by her. Hopefully nobody is going to lock her in horrible places anymore.

Powers/Abilities: N/A other than her computer skills, which are innate to her having been an AI.

Appearance: Feast your eyes upon her! The PB I selected is Cobie Smulders, because Juliana doesn't have a distinct canon appearance given, much less anything that would apply to a human.

How has your character changed from their canon self?
Though the personality section above addresses canon characteristics, she has changed in a few ways, or rather learned from her experiences. First off, she's learned not to always introduce herself in such an elevated manner. It turns out people don't always like that, and they tend to not believe her. Rude, isn't it? She thinks so. But she's slightly given up on pushing the point, seeing as it's both futile and marginally untrue. She's also stopped manipulating in large part because it doesn't have a purpose, and there wasn't anything that came up that required her to protect herself or others by doing so.

New experiences with people have given her a broader view of humanity, what is human, and how to be human. That has been her primary focus and fascination, from physical traits to eating to learning what it means to be affectionate, she's had a heck of a time. Though naturally inclined to care for others (partially due to her rampancy's elevated emotional state), she's acquired a taste for closeness, even to the point of enjoyably making people uncomfortable. It doesn't seem to bother her, and actually amuses her.

Nearly dying at one point had a huge impact on her, triggering her rampancy, which she had considered under control. The rampancy manifested as a variety of mental issues--anxiety, delusions, overthinking--that were part of rampancy already. Instead of being code she can control, though, she found herself spiraling at that time out of control and into a place she couldn't deal with easily. That experience being a little traumatic, she currently finds herself in a slightly fragile emotional state, worrying that her issues will disrupt her life or turn away others, a concern she never had as an AI.

Are they gaining any abilities from their time in game? Did the game setting take something from them? No. The only thing that changed was her being put into a human body.

    Prose Sample:
A beautiful day was before her, sun shining, a cool breeze blowing, and Juliana wrapped her arms around herself as she basked in it. She had wondered what it felt like, truly living, feeling real warmth on her skin, the sun on her face and soft grass under her feet. Madrigal was a blur in some ways, ever since she became steward of the Rubble, their goddess, their benevolent protector. But she'd always wondered how it felt to be them.

Of course she'd experienced some things before now, had seen metal and cloth and walls inescapable, but this was something... pastoral. Almost magical. Nature in its glory. Her entire life had been spent behind certain walls and restrictions, even as she was given human form. This is the sort of thing she's longed for in ways perhaps others couldn't understand.

Taking a few steps, she then stooped to remove her shoes, carefully balancing and nearly failing as she made a small hop sideways and gave a little laugh. And how it didn't echo, didn;t deaden on contact with the surroundings made her all the more satisfied. Shoes cast gleefully aside, she took her first barefooted steps out into nature, and for the second time in her short human life felt truly, indescribably joyful.
